Thanks to the SNAP program, Chelan County is one of the leading solar producers in Washington state. This is due in large part to the generosity of Alcoa, McCandlish Electric of Wenatchee, and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers Local 191. The Alcoa Community Solar Endowment and electrical union paid for the installation of 36 solar stations at schools and nonprofit agencies in Chelan County between 2003 and 2006. Customer contributions to SNAP are benefiting the schools and nonprofit agencies, providing a lasting source of revenue for educational and community programs.
