Outdoor Emergency Care - OEC - September 21, 2010 (12 weeks)

When:  Tuesdays and Thursdays for 12 weeks.  Where: Central WA Hospital Room C   How Much: $125.00  What you will learn: The emergency care of people in the outdoor environment can be exciting and challenging.  OEC has evolved into the most important current education program for individiuals who provide care in the nonurban environment.  OEC Technicians provide prehospital care for the sick and injured at ski areas, wilderness bike events, and many other outdoor environments.

OEC Technicians are trained in basic emergency skills.  The OEC course content adheres to a similar standard of training as the EMT-Basic Course.

• Using airway adjuncts
• Assisting patients with medications
• Splinting and bandaging
• Providing emergency care for environment illnesses and injuries, spinal injuries, and ski/snowboard and other outdoor injuries
• Using special equipment and techniques particular to nonurban rescuers
• Managing prolonged transport
• In some cases, performing Automated  External Defribulation (AED)

Because the OEC program is a prehospital emergency care program, the ability to ski or snowboard is not necessary.  However, to become a patroller, you must be proficient as a skier or snowboarder.

Sixth Graders will SKI FREE at Mission Ridge 2010-2011

Mission Ridge is celebrating 10 years of offering our local 5th graders the opportunity to discover Mission Ridge for a FREE day including a lesson, equipment and lift ticket.  So, next season 2010-2011 all sixth (6th) graders, regardless of school location, will be welcome to SKI FREE or should you choose - get a Sixth Grade Pass.  There will be a $20 processing fee and valid proof of grade level will be required (such as a report card) when picking up the pass.  The sixth grade pass is available for purchase NOW on line or you can purchase at any time this fall (the price will not change).  Factor in those savings for your family and hang tough - we know summers a bummer and winter is funner!
