The Ninety-Pound Rucksack Challenge returns to Mission Ridge! This annual ski mountaineering event honors the legacy of the 10th Mountain Division, their historic World War II ascent of Riva Ridge, and the spirit they brought home to American skiing.

Mission Ridge shares a deep connection to the 10th Mountain Division through Walter Hampton, a key figure in the mountain’s history and brother to founder Wilmer Hampton, who served with the Division on Riva Ridge. Participants skin or hike up the mountain, then ski or ride back down in tribute to Walter, the soldiers of the 10th, and the legacy that helped build the mountain we call home.
