A red PistenBully snowcat and a blue snowmaking fan sit on a snowy slope at Mission Ridge as snowmaking mist rises across the run. Fresh snow covers the ground and the surrounding forested hillside, with low clouds and winter light creating a cold, overcast atmosphere. Orange snowmaking hoses stretch across the foreground.

12/19/25 Operations Update

Winter made a welcome return on Thursday, delivering over a foot of new snow at higher elevations and 7 inches on the lower mountain and in the Base Area. Limited snowmaking was able to take place early in the day before temperatures warmed. By late afternoon and into the evening, precipitation changed to rain in the Base Area before returning to snow around 1:00am Friday morning.

As soon as temperatures dropped, the snowmaking team was ready to jump back into action. Guns were fired back up from Summit to Base in the early morning hours, and the forecast is shaping up well for significant snowmaking production starting this evening through the weekend and into early next week.

The good news is clear: winter is back and the mountain is coming back into shape. Unfortunately, the timing of this most recent storm and the return of sustained cold temperatures is just a bit too late to support a Saturday reopening. That said, we’re now targeting a possible Sunday, December 21st, re-opening conditions permitting. We still need to make additional snow and/or receive more natural snowfall on Mimi for a Sunday opening to come together, but barring changes to the forecast, it is looking like a possibility.

Between now and Sunday, our teams will be working every possible moment to solidify our snow base, improve coverage, and set the mountain up not just for a fun reopening—but for the weeks ahead.

What to Expect When We Reopen

Once we’re able to reopen, expect 24/7 snowmaking operations as conditions allow. This may include:

  • Modified terrain availability
  • Snowmaking equipment operating on open runs
  • Variable surface conditions in areas where snowmaking is underway

Our crews will be working around the clock to expand terrain and improve coverage.

Christmas on the Mountain

We’re excited to bring some holiday joy to the mountain no matter what the weather brings. Even though we will not be open for skiing and riding on Saturday, we will still move forward with Christmas on the Mountain activities.

Holiday crafts and activities will take place inside the Hampton Lodge and out on the deck, and we’re thrilled to welcome Bandits of the Animal Kingdom to play festive carols in the evening. Come enjoy the mountain atmosphere and some seasonal fun as we celebrate together.
