4:00pm Conditions Report:Â
Our favorite thing about Wednesdays is that Night Skiing comes back, and today is no exception! We’ve enjoyed a great day of skiing so far, with active snowmaking operations softening up our snow surfaces. Today, the temperature stayed in the 20s on the lower half of the mountain which has allowed snowmaking to continue all day. On the upper mountain, we topped out in the 30s, but low humidity kept the snow surfaces fairly dry. Conditions will be variable as we head into the evening, but with a lot more soft snow than we were seeing last week around this time of afternoon. After a day of skier traffic, there will be areas of hardpack exposed, especially on the upper mountain’s steeper pitches. However, in places where snow guns fired for most of the day (particularly the lower mountain), a significant amount of new snow has built up. Snowmaking snow usually settles heavier and denser than natural snowfall, so it won’t feel quite like a natural snowfall day, but there are places where multiple inches of snowmaking snow built of over the course of the day, creating soft but – by now – choppy conditions.
Beyond the riding, we can expect yet another incredible sunset. With bubblegum clouds down in the valley and the sun setting over Rainier, this view never gets old and tonight. We’ll see you on the mountain.
