10:00 Conditions Update:
We are still reaping the benefits of the snowfall yesterday as we have been open some more terrain today! Notably, we are able to open Castle and therefore Chair 4 is open to the top of the lift line. Boundary Road, Lip Lip Face (the mogul/black diamond section), Lemolo, Alah, NoName, Johnson’s, Tyee, and Lower Tyee have also opened this morning. A big thank you to our patrollers for working hard to lift the ropes on these runs and for their diligence to keeping us skiing safely. I’m sure we’re all excited to explore more, but take care to ride with caution.
The slopes are soft and creamy as expected and that blue sky peeking out is putting a big smile on my face. The snow that fell has condensed slightly to a squeaky and smooth consistency on the groomed runs which is easy to sink an edge into but still supportive underski. I braved some off-piste terrain and found that, despite its decent depth, you might just drop through the fluffy layer of new snow to the firm snowpack underneath. If you brave it, anticipate thin cover, hidden obstacles, and variable conditions and as alway, make sure to ride with caution.
It’s a bit chilly at lower elevations and certainly crisp at higher elevations, so bundle up and make sure to take breaks to rewarm! With the low temperatures, our main force working on the conditions of the piste is skier traffic, so look to lower traffic areas (like Chair 4 terrain) for some cords to claim. The rope-dropping of this morning should help spread out our tracks, and our slopes stay uncrowded, so I’m not too concerned. Visibility is great at lower elevations but a fog is currently crowning the mountain, which could be the first indications of those afternoon snow showers the forecast is teasing.
The mountain is buzzing with energy this morning and it’s a great day on the mountain!
6:30 Conditions Report:
Yesterday’s “little squall” turned out to be a real lucrative snow storm for The Ridge. Our snow stakes were reading 6″ of fresh by the end of operating hours at the summit. This should soften up and bolster our groomers as we’re opening for another day of fun in the sun. That light and fluffy white should smooth out into creamy corduroy as our grooming team is out laying it down for us this morning. Expect some beautiful smooth turns on the groomed runs today. As I drove up to the mountain this morning, I was delighted to see stars hanging in the sky, which means we are going to have some great views today. There’s a chance in the afternoon for a little more snowfall to refresh the runs but I would anticipate a mostly sunny day. Despite this, we’re forecast to get cold, with wind chill values predicted to drop down to -1F so make sure you are dressing appropriately for the weather by layering well and covering all exposed skin, and stop into Midway Lodge or the Hampton Lodge to warm up with a tasty treat or a warm bevy.
See you on the mountain!
