A snowmaking gun on a fresh coat of snow in the fog, with more guns lined up the slope and snowy evergreens on both sides

10/28/26 Conditions Report

Snow is back in the Base Area! A storm moved through Tuesday night into early Wednesday and brought new snow across all of our elevations, with snow levels dropping below 4,000 feet. Showers continued through the morning before tapering off, and there are now sunny skies over the valley below. The summit remains in the clouds for now, perhaps eking out a couple more flurries.

The Base Area picked up 1–2 inches, most of it overnight. Totals climb with elevation, to about 2 inches around Midway and a bit more in the Upper Basin. The wind has drifted things around up there, but I’d estimate about 5 inches in unaffected spots, split between Sunday night’s snowfall and last night’s refresh. The new coat is classic Mission Ridge snow: light and dry.

These cold days have pushed the larches along quickly. There’s still some color near the Base Area, but up on the mountain, they’re dropping their needles fast.

As of noon today, it’s around 23 at the summit and right at freezing in the Base Area. The weather is staying active, and we could see a little more snow over the next couple of days. With temperatures on the upper mountain expected to stay cold for the next several days, I’m feeling pretty optimistic that this snow is here to stay, at least up high. Winter might be here, and it doesn’t hurt that snowmaking can fire up in just 4 days!

Summer Access Policy

During the summer season (May–October), public access within the Mission Ridge Special Use Permit area is permitted except where restricted due to maintenance and construction. We love seeing the Mission Ridge community in the mountains and on the trails year-round, but please make sure to check out the full access policy by clicking the link below.

VIEW POLICY

Heads up: on November 1st, the Summer Access Policy switches to our pre-season Uphill Policy. With snowmaking starting up, more of our mountain operations crews will be out working on the mountain. Starting November 1, make sure to check the current Uphill Policy every time you head up, since it can change at any time.
