10:00am Conditions Update:
She’s a beaut out there folks! With corkin’ cords, a light breeze and high clouds destined to dissipate as the day rolls on, we are experiencing another beautiful day in paradise. I took a quick hike up Windy Ridge and enjoyed some packed pow with a few denser pockets in places, then made my way down toward Chair 3. I chose a smooth and flow-y run down Toketie where the cords hit just right. The cooler temps over night allowed for the groomers to do what they do best and lay down some edge-tastic surfaces for y’all to carve into. As we anticipate the temps to rise through out the day, I suspect those turns to get better and better, or butter and butter, if you will 😉
My suggestion is to venture away from high traffic runs to find your own groove and get carve-y with it! Â Â Â Tilikum would be a good one, riding smooth and sprightly, allowing for some dynamic turns and high edge angles. For those experts out there looking for some moguls head to Lemolo along the ridgeline, then make your way down to Johnson’s on the road to Chair 3. Off-piste riding is variable with packed pow stashes in place, and variable, exposed patches in others. As always have fun and ride with caution.
If you’re looking for a good show, head toward Katsuk, near the yeti statue and above Fun Park, to enjoy the action from The Skookum Kooker unbanked snowboard races going down today. First runs started at 10am and will roll through noon.
As the clouds roll out and the warm temps rise, we are anticipating an rockin’ night under the lights as we send off the final evening of Night Riding and boogey the night away with Mountain Music in the Lodge, hosting Massy Fergusson!
6:30 Conditions Report:
Good morning skiers and riders!
On my drive up this morning I was graced with the waxing gibbous moon casting a golden glow over the valley, setting the tone for another glorious day on the mountain! We are forecast to have filtered sunshine this morning with skies clearing up by this afternoon, and a projected high of 39 degrees. Temps were cooler yesterday at the summit and remained freezing overnight, which will keep the snow dry up top, although the fresh stuff is beginning to compact as it has been a few days since any new snowfall. We did also see high winds yesterday, which could mean snow drifts to scout out and lay down some softer slashes in places for those adventurous souls! The Base area received warmer temps yesterday, softening the snow, which then froze with the freezing temps overnight, so I’m anticipating firmer surfaces off-piste, and tasty edge-able turns on groomed runs. Temps will rise more than we’ve seen in the past few days, providing some more spring-like vibes for us all to enjoy in the afternoon!
With the new snow we received over the past couple weeks we’re stoked to have more terrain open for y’all, including the reopening of chair 3. Â I’m excited to get out and lay down a few turns on some new trails from top to bottom with you all. I’m thinking Windy Ridge could be a fun hike to drop into some potential wind-loaded pockets in places that haven’t already been tracked out yet. From there, I’m looking forward to checking out some Chair 3 trails as my skis haven’t ventured that way in some time. If you care to join me that way, please know that that all terrain on Chair 3 is natural snow only and variable conditions and coverage exist, so scout your lines carefully before deciding to drop in. As always, ski and ride with caution.
We’ve got some fun spectating going down on Katsuk, just above Fun Park, as snowboarders get a lil kooky in the Skookum Kooker event! Should be fun to watch these races go down!
Tonight is also your last chance to enjoy Night Riding for the season, with Massey Fergusson rocking the Ridge in the Hampton Lodge form 6:30pm-8:30pm!
See you on the mountain!
