10:00am Conditions Update:Â
Variable conditions exist across the mountain this morning as we transition from firm overnight conditions into a warm, sunny day. Currently, there are swaths of firm conditions interspersed with some areas that are beginning to soften. We will see continued softening into dense, heavy snow throughout the morning. As always, caution is needed when riding today. Areas of thin cover have cropped up, including along the edges of groomed runs like Tumwater. Areas that have not been groomed are very firm and chattery at the moment. Things could have changed since you were last here, and may continue to change throughout the day. On the bright side, it’s a gorgeous day with comfortable temperatures and expansive views. If you’re feeling gloomy down amidst the valley clouds, it’s brighter – and quite possibly warmer – up here.
9:00am Conditions Update:Â
After assessment by patrol, open runs today will include the following: Sunspot, Tumwater 1, 2, & 3, Mimi, Pika Peak, & Lil Bombers Park.
6:30am Conditions Report
Good morning everyone!
We’re ready for another day of skiing & riding here on the mountain, though the conditions and terrain availability will be more reminiscent of April than mid-January. We are continuing the past few days’ trend of warm temperatures and high pressure, so we can expect sunny skies and balmy conditions all day long. Those who like spring skiing with bluebird views and soft afternoon snow know that there are some fun turns to be had today, but we should definitely not expect typical mid-winter conditions or terrain.
Snowpack will start the day firm but will move quickly toward soft, corny conditions with dense snow in areas that receive sunlight or traffic. As this transition occurs, we can expect conditions to quickly become variable across the mountain. Especially in off-piste areas, conditions will be highly variable and we have lost significant coverage in some areas since the weekend.
Due to the warm temperatures, limited grooming was able to be done last night. Chair 1 terrain, Sunspot, and Tumwater will be the only groomed areas today.
Additionally, to help protect what’s left of the snowpack on Chair 3 and Chair 4 terrain during this warm spell, both of these chairs will remain closed today. Keeping these areas closed for the time being gives us the best chance of preserving coverage until conditions cool back down. Chairs 1 & 2 as well as the Pika Peak Rope Tow and the Ottobahn Carpet are scheduled for operation today. Scheduled runs include Sunspot, Tumwater (including Tum 3/4), Mimi, Pika Peak, Lil Bombers Park, Tower 10, & Hot Dog Hill. Patrol is currently assessing conditions on Nastar, Nertz, and Lip Lip.
Please continue to ride with caution in these warm-weather conditions. Watch for thin spots, exposed features, and changing surface conditions as the day progresses.
Night skiing returns tonight, so each of our open lifts will keep spinning till 9pm with the exception of Chair 2, which will be open until 8:30pm. See you on the mountain!
