10:00am Conditions Report:
If you see the snowmaking team out on the slopes today, give them a wave! One night can make a world of difference, and that’s what we’re seeing today after a night of snowmaking production. On-piste conditions are much softer than the past couple days. Though still on the firmer side as compared to a ‘typical’ midwinter day at The Ridge, it’s great to be able to trust an edge in the snow surface across most of Sunspot, Tumwater, and Mimi. Snow consistency varies a little more than usual since areas in closer to proximity to guns have received more snowmaking. Guns are currently firing across the mountain and production will continue for as long as temperatures allow. This could contribute to changing conditions throughout the day as we add a little more material to the snow surface. Ungroomed areas are very firm today, and I would definitely recommend sticking to the groomed runs unless you’re up for a chattery challenge. Views are gorgeous just as they have been for the past several days, with Rainier, Stuart, and all the big summits out in the clear while the Columbia Valley lays low beneath the clouds.
6:30am Conditions Report:
Come join us above the valley clouds for another sunlit day on the mountain! We can expect continued high pressure with blue skies and a light breeze all day long. There’ll be great views and some crisp cruising on Sunspot, Tumwater, & Mimi.
We are thrilled to have temps dropping toward a more normal range. Our snowmaking crew has been chomping at the bit, ready to get back out there, and they got their chance last night! They were able to fire up guns from the summit down to Midway to put the slopes on blast through the night. This is gonna give the groomers a bit more soft material to work with, which will be a big help after the melting snowpack refroze over the last couple days. Today, we can expect continued firm conditions on groomers, though I’m hopeful that with some snowmaking things may be softened up a little bit in places. Temps will stay lower today, resulting in smoother and more even snow conditions throughout the day. Ungroomed areas will remain very firm and loud with highly variable coverage. Sticking to groomers is gonna bring the smoothest riding experience today by far!
It is also important to be aware that, especially given the challenging weather this week, terrain and conditions can always be in flux. Â Remember to Pre-ride, Re-ride, and then Free-ride: always take a visual inspection and a couple slower run-throughs of new terrain before diving in. Watch for thin spots, exposed features, and changing surface conditions as the day progresses.
To start the day, open lifts will be Chair 1, Chair 2, the Ottobahn Carpet, & the Pika Peak Rope Tow. Chair 3 & Chair 4 remain closed at this time. Scheduled runs include Sunspot, Tumwater, Mimi, Pika Peak, Lil Bombers Park, & Hot Dog Hill. With night skiing tonight, Chair 2 will be open till 8:30 while the other lifts will spin till 9. We’ll see you on the mountain!
