6:30 Conditions Update:
Good morning skiers!
The forecast is… smooth groomers and a dose of sunshine! I know that midwinter gloom has been hanging over the valley, although I been above the clouds from my alpine perch. We might be seeing the end of the inversion soon as that cold thermal belt in the atmosphere mixes into the warmer air around it. With any luck, this will bring some cooler temperatures to the mountain. Already I’m seeing cooler temperatures at the summit than the base, which is a good sign but not an absolute promise. We will have to wait a little longer to see how things shake up.
Though the summit is cooling significantly, it stayed above freezing overnight. Anticipate firm and variable conditions on higher elevation snow, especially as the day progresses. Lower elevations were pretty chilly overnight but might start the day above freezing. I don’t really have any experience with how that will ski, but my best guess is starting soft and firming as temps drop back down through the day. Look to sunnier terrain for the best turns: Sunspot, Sitkum, Chak.
See you on the mountain!
