1/28 Conditions Report

2:30pm Operations Update: At approximately 12:09 p.m., an avalanche occurred on the run Nertz within the ski area boundary. The area of the avalanche is accessed via the Wenatchee Express chairlift, which is also referred to as Chair 2. Three guests were in the area of the slide but none were buried. No other guests or staff are believed to have been on the run at the time. A thorough search of the area is being conducted out of an abundance of caution. At this time there have not been any reports of missing skiers and the skiers involved in the slide did not see any other skiers in the vicinity. The Wenatchee Express Chairlift (Chair 2) and Chair 3 have been closed for the remainder of the day. Ski Patrol will be going out on the mountain during the remaining daylight hours to continue to assess conditions and perform avalanche mitigation work in a variety of locations on the upper mountain.

10:30am Update: The snow on the groomed runs is soft and feels more spring-like than mid-January. The warm temps and sunshine popping through the clouds at the Base Area also make it feel a bit more like late March. We are experiencing high winds at the summit, with calm winds in the Base Area and at Midway. We are watching wind speeds, and there is the possibility that winds will impact some chair operations today. Due to the warm overnight temperatures, there are limited groomed runs today. All normal Chair 1 run have been groomed this morning, but there are limited groomed options on Chairs 2 and 4, with only one groomed run on Chair 3 today.

Early Morning Report: Temperatures stayed above freezing across the mountain overnight, but we avoided any significant precip. Even though it was a soggy one out there yesterday, laughs and smiles were abundant, and the reports about surface conditions being “surprisingly fun” kept coming in. While the conditions we will experience today are not the norm, we are looking forward to another fun day of adventuring out there. Surface conditions will vary, but look for soft, wet snow on and off the groomed runs, with areas of firm snow (especially off the groomed run) as well. Coverage may be variable as well and might look different in places than it did a couple of days ago. There will also be limited grooming today due to the warm overnight temps. All normal Chair 1 run have been groomed this morning, but there are limited groomed options on Chairs 2 and 4, with only one groomed run on Chair 3 today.

The month of January is dedicated to promoting skier and rider responsibility and mountain safety. Resorts across the country participate every year to educate skiers and snowboarders about being safe and using common sense on the slopes. Make sure you know the Responsibility Code to help everyone have the best day out on the mountain.
