11:00 Terrain Update:
Chair 4 is now open from top to bottom during our daytime operating hours (9am-4pm)! Last night’s new snowfall was enough to re-open Castle, building upon the hard work by our grooming and snowmaking teams who have been rehabilitating that terrain as conditions permit. Open runs off of Chair 4 include Castle, Lower Sitkum, and Lower Chak Chak. All runs are accessed by turning right from the top of Chair 4.
The mid-station remains the only unload point during Night Skiing, because Castle does not have lights. All skiers and riders must unload at mid-station between 4pm and 9pm.
10:00 Conditions Update:
The muffled puffs of skis tearing into some new snow are all I needed to hear to know it’s gonna be a good day today! 1.5 inches of new snow have fallen in the upper basin, mostly after grooming was completed, creating a delicious soft surface to play around on. Snow totals decline and snow density increases as we descend, with heavier conditions close to Midway and very little new accumulation on Mimi. There were significant winds overnight, especially on the upper mountain, which have loaded up some areas but also scoured a few spots. The best conditions by far are on Tumwater 2 and above, bringing a much-anticipated refresh to the mountain. Visibility is very low at the summit currently, so it’s a good day to stick close to the tree-lines and continue to ride with care. About halfway down the mountain, visibility opens up significantly. We are thrilled to be back riding on new natural snow and we hope to see you up here!
6:30 Conditions Report:
Good morning skiers!
Snow is falling across the mountain and is forecast to continue throughout the day. We’re set to accumulate some white through today and into Friday. Our snowpack is thankful for it; after drying out for a while, this refresh will do the piste some good. We’re currently warmer at the base than the summit which may affect snow conditions. Anticipate a creamy layer of fresh, soft snow on top of a firmer base at higher elevations while lower elevations may be more consistent with heavier snow. Freezing level are hovering a few hundred feet below our base elevation but could rise to 5000′ throughout the day. Overnight, we received about 1.5″ of snow at the summit and 1″ around Midway. We should get more throughout the day but due to temperatures, the snow coming down might have a different consistency at different elevations. We’re seeing some gusts at the summit, manageable but distinct after the dead-calm of our inversion days. You could probably stay below it by lapping our prog parks on Mimi. Look out for Lil’ Bombers on skier’s left and its new extension on skier’s right to add some more introductory park terrain. Changes are happening on the slopes today and I’m excited to see how things shake out as the day progresses.
See you on the mountain!
