1/30/26 Conditions Report

9:30 Conditions Update:

We are experiencing loud and firm conditions on groomed runs at the moment, while ungroomed areas on the upper mountain have a layer of heavy, wet new snow. Snow conditions have been strongly affected by continued high humidity and temps hovering about the freezing mark, resulting in a damp snowpack that is seizing up across the mountain. The upper mountain received snow rather than rain last night and the summit stake is reading 3 inches in the upper basin over the last 24 hours, but realistically I would say that it is skiing like significantly less than that at the moment. That said, if you head for ungroomed areas up there, you can definitely find some soft snow to have some fun with. That snow has become wet and is compacting quickly. On the upper and mid-mountain, groomers are very firm. Lower down on Mimi, we are seeing temps on the rise, which is softening thing back up. The progression of conditions as the day continues will depend on when we see temps begin to warm up across the mountain. A warming trend will help soften things back up, but although this trend is in the forecast today, we are not observing it on the mountain just yet.

6:30 Conditions Report:

The upper and lower mountains will feel like two different worlds this morning as temperature and precipitation straddled the freezing line last night. Up top, it’s a wintry wonderland with another 2.5 inches of new snow overnight bringing us to 3 inches in 24 hours and 4.5 inches in the last couple days. This is gonna make for some excellent riding; groomed runs will be in great shape fed by the new snow, while ungroomed areas have a fresh layer of soft stuff. Winds out of the southwest last night have affected snow in exposed areas, leading to some deeper areas and some scoured spots. Those hunting for stashes will have ample opportunity to find what they’re looking for on the upper mountain.

On the lower mountain, temps were above freezing last night and we received the precipitation as rain. Groomers have heavy, damp surfaces that’ll actually be pretty fun to ride even if it’s not the typical mid-winter piste condition, but there is the potential for things to get crusty and firm if temps shift downward by just a few degrees. Especially on lower-mountain groomed runs, be prepared (as always) for conditions to change quickly in response to relatively small fluctuations in the weather. Ungroomed areas on the lower mountain may have a thin layer of wet snow atop them but will primarily be very firm and slick.

I am expecting the best conditions today to occur in the morning on the upper slopes, and the skiing here will be excellent. As the day progresses, the freezing level will start to creep upward. We could get some more rounds of snow showers at the summit and light rain showers at the base, with the snow level inching upwards. Get here early to enjoy some powdery freshness at the top! If you arrive later, look to the higher elevations to retain fresh conditions for the longest, and if you’re here at night, join us in the Midway Lodge for our inaugural Bingo Night starting at 5:30!
