Winter just paid another visit to the upper mountain, and we are glad to have the upper slopes wreathed in white once more! Most of the new snow fell Sunday night, and snow showers have continued at the summit through today. Mountain ops teams reported 2–3 inches near the top of Chair 2 and around 2 inches at the top of Chair 4. Snow totals tapered off at lower elevations, with a faint dusting reaching down to around Midway this morning.
The weather has stayed active throughout the day, with the upper mountain flitting in and out of the clouds. Temperatures are hovering around 30 at the summit and near 40 at the Base Area, and mists are swirling about. It’s a moody and dramatic ambiance, with changing skies, a veil of new snow, and western larches hanging onto their bold colors at lower elevations.
Tomorrow should clear up and bring some blue skies, but the rest of the week looks active, with several chances for more light snow. Could this be the snow that sticks around for good? It’s too soon to know. But between the active pattern and the start of snowmaking less than a week out, we’re feeling optimistic.
