Snowmaking is live here at The Ridge! On Saturday, the night crew was gathered at the summit, restlessly counting down the minutes until the clock struck midnight. They immediately fired up guns when the calendar flipped to November, starting at the top of Chair 2 and working down to the top of Tumwater 2 as temperatures fell in the pre-dawn hours.
As things warmed up on Sunday, the day shift paused operations late in the morning and brought the guns back to life at 5pm, running from the summit down to the top of Tumwater 2 once more. They also warmed up the rest of the Tumwater 2 guns ahead of the overnight temperature drop and had more of them firing by 10pm. The guns were shut down again this morning as the sun climbed higher in the sky.
Mother Nature’s contribution is hanging around as well, with seasonably cold temps allowing natural snow to be preserved through the weekend in most areas. The Upper Basin snow stake is measuring around 2 inches this morning, following compaction and a bit of melting.
Looking ahead, temperatures are forecast to tick up slightly over the next few days, likely enough to shut the guns down for a bit. Increased clouds and a chance for snow showers will return later this week. Our snowmaking team is staying vigilant and chomping at the bit to get back out there as soon as conditions let them make real progress. We will keep you posted as the season continues to draw closer!
