Winter made a welcome return this morning with both natural snowfall and snow guns firing across the mountain. After a stretch of unseasonably warm and wet November weather, colder temperatures over the past few days have allowed the Mission Ridge Snowmaking (MRSM) team to make real progress.
On Monday night, the crew fired up 29 snow guns from the Summit to the Base Area, taking full advantage of every snowmaking window. We’re expecting more natural snowfall midweek. Slightly warmer temps may limit production at times, but a major cool-down arrives this weekend with lows dropping into the mid-to-upper teens, which will dramatically improve snowmaking conditions.
Opening Day Outlook
Our teams are giving it everything they have, and we never say never, but at this point, Friday’s opening is all but off the table, and Saturday/Sunday operations are becoming less likely. We really need some additional help from Mother Nature, which is currently not in the forecast. If we are not able to open this weekend, our focus will shift toward a Friday, December 5th, opening to kick off our 59th season.
We’ll continue to update conditions as the weather evolves.
