We had a great re-opening today, and it was awesome to be back out there sliding on snow at long last! As we look forward to tomorrow (Monday, 12/22), we are thrilled to bring some additional terrain into play.
Lifts scheduled for tomorrow include Chairs 1, 2, and 3 along with the Pika Peak Rope Tow! Yep, you read that right: Chair 3 is making its debut for the season and Chair 2 is back in business thanks to our lift maintenance crew.
Tomorrow’s groomed runs will include Sunspot, Tumwater, Mimi, & the Pika Peak Learning Area. I’m feeling optimistic about some soft corduroy on these runs after we received over a foot of snow above Midway in the past 4 days, including 18 inches at the summit. With the addition of some fresh snowmaking piles, the grooming crew has a lot of soft snow to work with tonight as they lay down those cords.
Tomorrow’s additional open terrain will include Tumwater 3, part of the Fun Park zone, & the Bomber Access Road off of Chair 2, as well as Kiwa (Upper Kiwa will remain closed), Java, & Lower Toketie off of Chair 3. Terrain off Chair 3 will be limited and ungroomed. Skiers and snowboarders unloading Chair 3 must exit to the right, follow the road down to access the lower portion of Kiwa, or continue on the road to reach Toketie.
While we’re stoked to be adding more terrain to the mix, keep in mind that thin cover and early season conditions exist across the mountain, but especially on the Chair 3 terrain. There is no snowmaking off of Chair 3, so these trails are open on natural snow only. Most of this snowpack has been compacted by snowcats but has not been groomed. Only advanced skiers and riders prepared for variable conditions & coverage should ride Chair 3. As always, we urge you to ski and ride with caution and take it easy as you ease onto new terrain. Those seeking a more laid-back experience should expect an awesome day cruising Sunspot & Tumwater under partly sunny skies with a chance of flurries.
We are looking forward to another awesome day to kick off the holiday week and are stoked to have the opportunity to ride some new terrain. We will see you on the mountain!
