4:00pm Conditions Report:
Here we go! Winter 25/26 is ramping up with our first night of night skiing kicking off from 4-9 pm tonight! We’re starting things off with Chair 1, Chair 2, & the Pika Peak Rope Tow. As is the norm for night skiing, Chair 2 will close at 8:30 while the others roll all the way through to 9:00.
We picked up half an inch of new snow this afternoon amidst dropping temps and increasing wind speeds. There’s some real fun, but variable, conditions out there right now. On Sunspot, we’ve seen the piste firm up quite a bit throughout the day; however, we’ve also added to the layer of soft snow atop the surface with these afternoon snow showers. There’s soft turns to be found, especially on the sides of runs where it’s been piled up by wind and skiers throughout the day. But in the middle of runs, be ready for some soft bumps and slick spots.
Lower down, we’ve seen less wind effects and slightly heavier quality to the new snow, resulting in a more consistent surface with some good edgeable grip on Lower Tumwater & Mimi.
We are so excited to turn the lights on and glad we got a bit of new snow to liven up Night 1! If you’re new to night skiing, remember that conditions at night are often more challenging after a full day of skier traffic & weather patterns disturbing the snow surface, along with reduced visibility. There is no easy way down from Chair 2 during night skiing. Chair 2 night terrain is for advanced skiers and riders who are familiar with Chair 2 terrain or similar.
We are expecting continued gusty winds and falling temperatures as the night continues. The low temperature is likely to drop into the teens tonight, with wind chills potentially dropping below zero at the summit. While it probably won’t get quite that cold by 9 when we close, be sure to dress for the weather anyway. The Hampton Lodge will be open all the way till closing to warm up, grab some cocoa, and eat some great food (hint – try out the salmon you won’t regret it).
See you on the mountain!
