12/31/25 Conditions Report

10:00 Conditions Update:

Another beautiful sunny day is off to a good start here on the mountain! Groomed runs are skiing well from summit to base, with softer conditions lower down and firmer conditions on the first pitch of Sunspot, where we’ve seen a few freeze-thaw cycles over the past couple days. We’re still experiencing a temperature inversion with warmer conditions at the summit and chillier temps in the Base Area. Although temps are above freezing at the top, snow quality is still pretty dry on most pistes given the low sun angle at this point in the winter. It is possible that sunlit areas will thicken up a bit throughout the day but most of the mountain will remain shaded. Over on Chair 3 terrain where we haven’t had snowmaking, there are some areas of nice corduroy that lasts a bit longer with less traffic. However, there are also significant areas of low coverage – definitely suitable only for advanced skiers prepared for variable conditions and coverage. It’s shaping up to be another great day, and we’ll see you out here!

6:30 Conditions Report:

Good morning Skiers!

The forecast is suggesting we are coming to the end of the Easterly weather system in the near future, which should beckon in a bit of snowfall in its absence. We are in the thick of it today, with balmy temperatures forecast across the mountain. We will have some sun if you haven’t already gotten a cute picture at the summit with Rainier or Hood in the background, you should have the chance today. Overnight conditions reflect the inversion that has been sitting on the mountain, with cold temperatures at the Base Area and Midway, and warm temperatures at the summit. Expect the slopes to start the day firm at lower elevations and spring-like at higher elevations. As the day wears on, anticipate the snow to soften especially in sun-exposed and high elevation areas, with some potential for some re-firming of the snow base heading into Night Skiing.

See you on the mountain!

Terrain*

Early season conditions exist and limited terrain will be open. Low coverage in places with marked and unmarked obstacles. Please stay on open runs and respect all rope lines/trail closures as they are there for your safety.

There is no snowmaking off of Chair 3, so these trails are open on natural snow only with limited grooming. Only advanced skiers and riders prepared for variable conditions & coverage should ride Chair 3. As always, we urge you to ski and ride with caution and take it easy as you ease onto new terrain.

Our snowmaking team has been hard at work building up the snowbase on Chair 4 terrain. Snowmaking infrastructure only exists on lower portions of Chak Chak and Sitkum, so despite the great improvements earned by our snowmaking team, this terrain is dependent on natural snowfall as well. Because of their efforts, Chair 4 terrain is shaping up well and while we aren’t certain when we will be able to open up this part of the mountain, things are looking optimistic.

Snowmaking operations will continue whenever possible to expand terrain and improve coverage. This may include:

  • Modified terrain availability
  • Snowmaking equipment operating on open runs
  • Variable surface conditions in areas where snowmaking is underway

Expected open terrain for 12/31:

Scheduled groomed terrain: Mimi, Tumwater, Sunspot, Tower 10, Katsuk, Boundary Road, Hot Dog Hill, & Pika Peak beginner area will be groomed.

Scheduled ungroomed terrain: Upper portion of Tumwater, part of the Fun Park zone, Bomber Access Road, Lip Lip, Nastar, Kiwa (Upper Kiwa will remain closed), Java,  Lower Toketie, Johnson’s, Tyee, & Kwan

For night skiing, Sunspot, Tumwater, Mimi, & Pika Peak will be open.

*Run status may change at any time.
