11:00 Conditions Update:
Snowfall has tapered off after about a half an inch at Midway, with a bit more up top and a bit less at the base.
10:00 Conditions Update:Â
So far, our rate of snowfall is vastly outpacing the forecast. It has been lowkey dumping for the last 45 minutes or so, which has been a boon for conditions. Snow surfaces are getting softer by the minute but continue to vary with elevation. The underlying piste is firm up top, loose and granular in the mid-mountain, and springy and slushy down low. Atop this, new snow is falling from summit to base, adding some softness and extra grip to all elevations. The best riding is on the upper and middle mountain: up top, the piste is holding an edge well as the relatively dense new snow adheres to the otherwise firm surfaces, and in the mid-mountain, there is a lot of loose snow to spray up. If you’ll be riding Mimi all day, a belt wax is gonna be your best friend – conditions are soft but sticky. If snowfall continues to outperform the forecast, we could end up with a sleeper great day for conditions! If we experience a reversion to the mean, this brief squall will still be a big boost that will delay, but not prevent, the return to spring conditions as the day progresses. We’ll see what’s to come and look forward to seeing you up here!
6:30 Conditions Report:
We’re scheduled for a bit more snow today from a weather system that should hang over us through Monday. Hopefully we’ll be able to pick up a dusting as this moves through as we’re forecast to start receiving some sun again as the week progresses. There is a significant chance of precipitation across the mountain which will fall as snow in the upper basin and mixed precip at lower elevations. Freezing levels could drop and turn that into snow again.
Expect the groomers to start firm and transition to spring-like conditions as the day progresses, especially at lower elevations where the temperatures are forecast to stay pretty balmy. We could get breezy today with higher and more exposed areas feeling the brunt of it. Right now, visibility is good and from my perch, we are sitting above the valley inversion.
See you on the mountain!
