10:00am Conditions Update:
With clouds rolling in, temperatures are running cooler and the trees are frosted at the summit. With just two turns into my run down Sunspot I realized I was still running spring wax, and wishing that I’d stopped by the rental shop to lay down some cold wax on my bases to maximize those fresh groomers today. Â Nonetheless, sliding was smooth underfoot, with soft grippy turns in some places and more compacted snow in higher traffic areas.
At the summit it was evident that we received higher winds last night, as some places felt windswept and firm, with softer spots deposited in lee-ward pockets from the skiff of snow we received. I enjoyed some playful side-hit slashes where the snow was soft and built up on the side terrain. Skiing off-piste boasted variable conditions, some softer hits, amid exposed terrain, and as fun as it was in some areas, those sneaky shark fins are looming and ready to grab your skis or board, so as always, be mindful to ride with caution when venturing out.
The forecast is calling for a possibility of snow later today and as the winds continue to push the clouds over the Ridge it is a good reminder to dress warm against this cooler front.
Mission is the place to be this Valentine’s Day as we have fun forecasted all day and into the evening to keep you dancing on and off the snow! Night Riding will be a cool Date Night option, with Mountain Music hosting DJ Mabee, ready to lay down some tasty tunes on the dance floor, and our Food and Beverage staff ready to roll out tasty treats from the kitchen! And if you are still looking for a last minute Valentine’s gift, head over to our retail shop for some awesome merch.
See you on the slopes!
6:30 Conditions Report:
Happy Saturday, Mountain lovin’ people! Mother Nature has joined the party to share a little love today, gracing us with a kiss of new snow overnight. We recorded a small amount of snow fall, but with the stronger SouthWest winds we saw, the soft stuff could be less in exposed areas, and potentially a few shallow pockets may have formed in leeward facets. The current temperature at the summit is 18degrees, with winds blowing in from the West up to 20mph, that and with the forecast calling for cloudy skies and a chance of snow to fall in the afternoon, be sure to dress warm for wintry conditions.
This storm front may not boast the snow we have been long awaiting, but the good news is our wonderful snow making team and grooming crew have been working hard to gift you some silky smooth groomers from summit to base all through out this long weekend. With the drop in temps this week, the snow makers have been blasting non-stop to give the mountain a well needed refresher, which has resulted in some tasty morning turns on-piste, (get them while they last!) Â The cooler temps through out the day have allowed for conditions to remain dry and consistent, especially in less travelled areas like chair 4 trails, and we anticipate that to be the same for today.
If you are joining us of the first time in a while, its good to note that, although groomers are riding smooth, off-piste terrain is limited, with many exposed areas and firm and variable conditions existing across the mountain. If you do plan to venture off-piste, remember to always ski and ride with caution.
For our jibbers out there, the Park Crew is stoked to have refreshed the 100Laps Park, and the new build is now ready for action! Come check it out.
There’s a lot going on up here today with Night Riding ushering the fun into the evening. Fresh beats will be bopping in the Lodge as Mountain Music hosts talented tunes from DJ Mabee. If you’re looking for a fresh way to celebrate Valentine’s Day, elevate your date night, with dancing shoes in hand, and be ready for a good time!
We can’t wait to see you on the mountain!
