10:00 Conditions Update:Â
We’re seeing snowfall across the mountain right now with an inch accumulated at the summit yet. It’s coming down fairly hard and wetter than average. Our snowpack is on the firm side from the warm temperatures overnight that dropped in the morning and with the wet snow coming down, we’re building up a creamy layer on top. I don’t want to call the snow sticky but the wet consistency of the snow will help it adhere to the existing pack. Little snowmaker knowledge: wet snow will sort of “drain” into the snow it falls on which can increase cohesion in a snowpack. This is all to say this snow should hold up pretty well to traffic. Currently, we’re subfreezing everywhere on the mountain, which is going to extend the time this precip is coming down as snow. It’s a big ol’ playground on the mountain right now and I know you want to play.
8:00 Operations Update:
Thanks to the hard work from our parks crew, we expect to open 100Laps terrain park today. The crew is still out putting the finishing touches on the obstacles and we anticipate getting the park open soon.
6:30 Conditions Report:
After yesterday’s flurries, we are welcoming another injection of white in the forecast today. Sunny days are forecast this week as our little storm system moves on, but we’ve got the potential to accumulate a little snow today during our operating hours. Freezing levels may rise throughout the day, turning the snow to mixed precipitation at lower elevations while higher elevations should hold onto that cold a while longer to really milk the tail end of the storm.
Expect diverse conditions on the mountain today as we’ve had fluctuating temperatures overnight. The Base Area spent the night above freezing while Midway dropped below freezing after midnight. The summit has been staying below freezing and temperatures shouldn’t rise above freezing there today, unlike lower elevations which are forecast to get a bit balmy. Anticipate a soft layer topping firmer snowpack on the groomers. This could scrape to firm or soften into springlike conditions (or both) as the day progresses. I think today will be an intellectually stimulating ski day.
See you on the mountain!
