9:45 Conditions Update:Â
If you’re gonna be skiing hard this morning, think about dropping a layer! It is balmy out there with temps in the low 40s at all elevations and very light wind. The corduroy is already soft pretty much from summit to base, with that classic springtime density. As the day progresses, that snow will continue to get softer and heavier, with full-on spring conditions by midday. Beneath the loose layer is hardpack, and this could become exposed in some spots. Chair 4 terrain is gonna hold onto its consistent surface for the longest due to lower traffic. Ungroomed areas remain very firm from repeated freezing and thawing, and the coverage is extremely variable. We currently have some modest clouds overhead, but there is blue sky over Rainier to the west that should be moving in to bring us sunlight within the next few hours. Happy cruising! We will see you up here.
6:30 Conditions Report:
The moon is peaking through a thin checkerboard of clouds, illuminating crisp corduroy as the grooming team finishes up their work this morning. Today will follow a spring-like pattern with above-average temperatures for the time of year paired with sunny skies. It won’t feel like mid-winter riding out there, but there’s definitely good stuff to be found nonetheless. The morning will be the right time to break out those carving skis, as groomed runs will start the day crisp and firm, having seized up overnight. As the day progresses and the sun hits the slopes, conditions will start to soften across the mountain. Currently we are seeing a slight temperature inversion, with temps in the low 40s at the summit and high 30s at the base, so this process may initiate from the top down. By around noon, most snowpack will be soft and corn-y and if you’re looking for soft snow, you’ll be rewarded with some loose and damp conditions on the groomed runs. Ungroomed areas will start the day very firm and highly variable in coverage: use caution as always.
If you get out of work and school in the afternoon and want to come join us, fear not! We are open till 9pm tonight for Night Skiing, so there is plenty of time to come play. We are also hosting our second Bingo Night at Midway this evening. If you’re feeling lucky (or hungry, or want to take a quick break from lapping Chair 2), come join us inside from 5:30-7! We will see you on the mountain!
