11:00am Conditions Update
The storm front has rolled in earlier than anticipated bringing with it snow fall at the summit and rain at the base area. Make sure to throw on your waterproof gear and warm gloves to weather the elements and enjoy your ride out there. Here’s a hoping the snow keeps coming and drops to lower elevations! And if you want to stay dry come up to the Lodge and for Mountain Music! Tonight’s band Rockabilly Space Force, playing from 6:30-8:30pm, is sure to get you groovin’!
10:00am Conditions Update
High clouds above and soft surfaces beneath, we’ve got another spring-y morning rolling out up here at the Ridge. Warm temps this morning have allowed for slash-tactic surfy snow conditions from summit to base area. Surfaces are already sliding sugary and corn-like underfoot, and will slip into a more dense consistency into the early afternoon, before a new storm system is calling for a drop in temps and some precipitation. At this point, it remains unclear whether this precip will start out as rain or a mix of snow and rain at the base area, but as the weekend progresses temps will drop and snow is forecasted to fall at higher elevations.
I enjoyed fresh groomers while they lasted from summit to base, but it was over on Chair 4 where things got really playful. After off-loading at midway, my favorite turns of the morning were spent slashing the side hits off of Sitkum and on Lower Chak Chak, where the steeper pitch allowed for greater edge angulation, I was able to lay down a couple of race-y turns all the way to the bottom. Off-piste riding is extremely variable as the tide is low today, some soft patches through the trees, but beware of very little snow coverage in most other places. As always, be mindful to ski and ride with caution.
It was a welcome treat to see some features up in 100Laps Park today, with its grand opening for the season at the start of the week! Â If jibbing is your jam, you’ll be happy to have some fun, techy features to session today, with the hopes of more features returning as conditions permit.
Stick around for fun all day and into the evening with Night Riding and Music on the Mountain in the Lodge, hosting Rockabilly Space Force, Â from 6:30-8:30pm.
See you out there 🙂
6:30 Conditions Report:
Well folks, change is in the air! That calm and balmy high pressure system that brought sunny spring-like conditions this past week is now making way for a new storm cycle. Although temps will remain warmer this morning, they are forecast to drop as the day progresses. Southwesterly winds will build through out the day as the storm crests the Cascades to grace our beautiful Ridge. Precipitation is on the menu, and is predicted to fall around mid-morning into the afternoon. It may start out as rain in the lower basin and a snow-like consistency at the summit, however, that is likely to change in the coming days, as the temps continue to drop over the weekend.
Be prepared for a plethora of variable snow conditions mountain-wide today. Clear overnight conditions and the shift to freezing temps on the summit mean skiing and riding will start out firm underfoot, both on and off piste. But expect surfaces across the mountain to release and soften as day time temperatures rise. By mid-morning, most snowpack will be soft and corn-like and if you’re looking for some soft slidin’, you’ll be rewarded with loose and damp conditions on the groomed runs. Ungroomed areas will start the day very firm and highly variable in coverage, as always, use caution when venturing out.
If jibbing is your jam, go check out the 100Laps Park today! Park Crew have been working hard, amidst challenging conditions, Â to bring you six fun, a little gnarly, a little techy, features for your jibbing pleasure! They are of course jonesing to get more features up and running for you all, and will be working on that as conditions permit.
As the storm rolls in later today, so too do the good times! The fun continues on the mountain into the evening with Night Riding until 9pm. Mountain Music in the Hampton Lodge will be hosting Rockabilly Space Force, come join us from 6:30-8:30pm for some retro goodies and golden oldies from the 50’s and 60’s era!
We are stoked to see you on the Mountain today!
