Ski and snowboard tracks over freshly groomed snow

2/7/26 Night Conditions Report

4:00pm Conditions Report:

Tumwater 2 is the demarcation line between winter and spring this evening, with snow flying for most of the day on the upper mountain while rain fell below. The upper basin picked up 2 inches of snow throughout the day, providing us with some soft goods. Steady winds have affected this snow significantly, loading up some spots but also scouring the top of Sunspot pretty thoroughly, down to hardpack in some places. As we descend, snow quality gets denser and stickier, doing a better job adhering to the existing snow surface and resisting wind effects, but also losing out on some of the fluff. Dropping down Tumwater 2, the dense snow trends toward slush and we enter the territory that saw mostly rain today. The snowpack is heavy, wet, and saturated, making soft and bumpy conditions that give us freedom to ride creatively but do require some hard work and active attention to navigate. Temps are on a gradual downward trend, and snow has recently reached all the way to the Base Area (with drier snow quality up high and very, very wet quality low down). As the night goes on, hopefully we can eke out a bit more snowfall to keep things soft. However, dropping temps could also start firming up some of our more saturated surfaces if they start to re-freeze. Expect highly variable conditions out there this evening, with lots of fun spots combined with numerous opportunities to get wet and bumpy.

If you decide to head inside for a break, join us in the Hampton Lodge for Mountain Music and dinner! Rockabilly Space Force will be playing from 6:30-8:30, and the dinner special is a 12oz ribeye, one of Chef Rey’s specialties. We will see you on the mountain!
