10:00am Conditions Update
It is a moody St. Patrick’s morn on the mountain. Clouds, wind, and a light mist have rolled in over the summit while we continue to enjoy mostly cloudy skies and a light breeze in the Base Area. Snow conditions are generally wet and soft, but they do vary with elevation and the degree of previous skier compaction. Areas on untracked or lightly tracked new snow are very soft and wet. Areas that have seen significant skier compaction/traffic over the last 3 days are firmer and more variable. Tumwater is in the middle of the soft/firm scale. We are keeping our eyes out for rainbows and can hopefully chase this storm and find a pot of powder gold as we move on through the week!
6:30am Report
Temperatures remained well above freezing overnight, and we’re starting the day with a much more spring-like feel across the mountain. As a result, surface conditions are expected to be soft, wet, and on the slower side today.
Due to the warm overnight temperatures, grooming operations may be limited, and surfaces may feel less defined than usual first thing this morning. As the day progresses, expect continued softening across all elevations, with heavier snow conditions developing, especially on lower elevation terrain.
If you’re heading out today, it’s a great day to throw on a fresh wax to help reduce friction and keep things moving smoothly. You’ll definitely feel the difference in these slower, wetter conditions.
Make sure to dress for changing conditions, including the possibility of light rain and gusty winds.
Coverage remains improved following the recent storm cycle, but remember that earlier season conditions included a thinner base. Please continue to ride with awareness, stay on open runs, and respect all rope lines and closures.
Chairs 1, 2, 4, and all surface lifts are scheduled for operation today form 9am to 4pm.
It may not be a classic powder day, but there are still plenty of turns to be had. Embrace the spring conditions and enjoy your time on The Ridge.
Chair 3 Update
Chair 3 will be closed on Tuesday, March 17, while our Lift Maintenance team conducts a thorough inspection. We will provide additional updates after the assessment and share a timeline for Chair 3’s return to operation as soon as it’s available.
Chair 3 closed at approximately 2:00 PM on Monday, March 16, due to a mechanical issue. The issue occurred after a carrier came around the top bullwheel and experienced excessive swing, causing it to contact a tower on the downhill (non-passenger) side. This contact pulled the haul rope out of alignment and triggered a sensor, which stopped the lift. Mission Ridge Ski Patrol completed a successful lift evacuation without incident. Chair 3 remained closed for the rest of the day.
