To cut straight to the chase...
Conditions are looking good and we are planning to start the 2017/18 season this Saturday, November 18th with a limited opening of Chairs 1 and 2 pending the arrival of permits from Washington State Parks and L&I. If things don’t line up for an opening on the 18th we will be excited to open for the season on Friday, November 24th.
All the details…
At Mission Ridge we always target the Friday after Thanksgiving for our “Scheduled Opening Day”. This date is identified in advance of the season with no certainty of what conditions will be when November rolls around. Even though the target is acquired before long term forecasts are compiled, over 50 years of experience tells us that this is a good bet. 7 out of the last 10 seasons The Ridge has been able to open on or before Thanksgiving weekend. On at least two of those opening days Mission was the first in the state to open.
But what does all this mean for the first day of this season?
Early November conditions on the mountain have come together from both a snowmaking and natural snowfall standpoint to make an early opening on Saturday the 18th a possibility. Our crews out on the mountain, in the lodges, and in the Base Area have been working extremely hard and their effort is certainly noticeable. A ton of work has been accomplished this offseason and we are excited to welcome you up to the mountain to experience these upgrades for yourself!
On Wednesday, November 18th our crews finalized a successful inspection of the upgrades to Chair 1 and now we are awaiting the arrival of operational permit. We want to thank Washington State Parks and the US Forest Service for being such supportive partners in recreation with us! Whether the 18th or 24th is the day, we will begin the 2017/18 season as soon as we have this permit in hand. We will make the announcement as soon as we possibly can.
