Re-Opening Saturday 12/2!

Alright, here we go! Mission Ridge will be re-opening this Saturday and Sunday, December 2nd-3rd from 9am-4pm. The MRSM crew has has been absolutely crushing it out on the mountain making snow and setting you up for a great season. Over the last week and a half temperatures have been sporadic, but when it has gotten cold enough* this hardcore group of PNW Originals was out there getting it done from the top of The Ridge to the bottom of the Base Area.

Snowmaker's Log

The Mission Ridge Snowmaking Crew (MRSM) has been crushing it out on the mountain every chance they get. There is a ton of hard work that goes into prepping for a season that many folks never get the chance to see or hear about. Here is glimps into the life of MRSM and what they have been up to the last couple of days as we push hard to get open for the weekend.

Operations Update

Early season conditions can be fickle and things can change in a hurry. It was a little too warm and wet this week to be able to re-open this weekend as planned. Temps did cool last night (Thursday Night) and upper mountain snow is holding in there well, especially where the MRSM crew has been able to pile on the snowmaking, but the lower mountain (Midway to the Base) will be needing a bit more natural snowfall and/or cold temps for continued snowmaking. Based on the 10 day forecast our target re-opening date is Friday Dec. 1st conditions permitting. As we said, things change quickly in the mountains and that next big dump of snow could be right around the corner. Stay tuned into the website and the conditions report for the latest news on re-opening and all other things Mission Ridge. Keep your fingers crossed, double down on the snow dances and know that we are looking forward to seeing you back on the mountain soon!

Closed Friday-Sunday 11/24-11/26

On this Thanksgiving Day we are thankful for this amazing place we get to come to play and for all of you who make up the Mission Ridge Community. We wish you and yours a very Happy Thanksgiving! But we do have some less cheerful news as well. The weather system that rolled in on Monday brought with it warm temperatures and rain. This persisted through Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. We were planning to re-open tomorrow with Chairs 1, 2 and the Pika Peak rope tow but this warm storm has set us back. We are certainly not back to square one with respect to the snowpack but too much snow was lost to be able to re-open as scheduled. We will be closed Friday-Sunday 11/24-26 and our targeted reopening date is December 1st conditions permitting. While we don’t get to ski and ride with you all this weekend we look forward to seeing you back at The Ridge soon! See you on the hill, -Tony

Update On Real Time Weather Data

Many of you may have noticed that earlier this month we lost communications between our weather stations and the Northwest Avalanche center found through the "Detailed hourly updates (NWAC)" link. The issue is on site at Mission and we are actively working with NWAC to resolve this situation. We rely on this system for many of our mountain operation functions and we also know that many people check and utilize this data daily. It is of the highest importance to us to get it fixed. We are currently manually observing temperature in the Base Area, at Midway and at the mountaintop patrol shack. Real time wind speed is also measured at the mountaintop patrol shack. These observations will be listed on our website whenever possible but updates may be infrequent, especially during non-operational days. Thanks for your patience and understanding!

Sunday Preview

We are very excited to have started the 2017/18 season early and to have seen so many friends, both old and new, up on the mountain today! A brisk and beautiful bluebird day greeted the start of the new season and smiles and high fives were contagious. Early morning turns were quite literally a breath of fresh air and watching folks new to the sports enjoying their first mountain experience is always a joy. Ski and snowboard season is here and it truly is the best time of year! Chairs 1 and 2 are both scheduled for operation tomorrow but we did experience a mechanical set back on Chair 2 today that limited its operation. This situation does have the potential to keep Chair 2 out of operation tomorrow. If Chair 2 does not run tomorrow we will still open as scheduled from 9am to 4pm with Chair 1. Both Midway and the Hampton Lodge will be open, as well as all our other skier and rider services (Rentals, Retail, Ski School, Childcare). Please know that all of our crews are hard at work tonight as always to make sure your experience is the best it can possibly be. We look forward to another fun day on the hill! -Tony

Saturday 11/18 Forecast

Lets. Go. Skiing! We welcome you back to your winter home and the start of the 2017/18 season up at Mission Ridge. It is exciting to be opening early for the second time in four seasons and on or before Thanksgiving weekend for the third time in the last four years. It has been a great start to the month of November with good natural snowfall and some awesome snowmaking productivity as well. These conditions have come together to allow for limited early opening today and we want to emphasize that even though things are off to a good start, early season conditions do exist out there. Make sure, as always, to ski and ride with care and easy style your way back into winter condition. See you on the hill, -Tony
