Weather Updates

Wednesday 12/20 Forecast

I hope you all had as much fun as I did yesterday. It felt great to open ‘er up in some soft snow and feel the legs burn. The storm has moved on, the temperature has dropped and the classic East Slope blue sky is expected to make a return today. Combined with the new snow, the conditions should make for another great day of skiing. 9am Update- I just got back in from a run, and the skiing is just as good as I expected. The groomed surfaces are soft and smooth. Yesterday evening was rather windy, so be aware that off-piste areas are wind blown but soft. Patrol continues to assess closed terrain and additional terrain will open as conditions permit. In the meantime, please respect all closures. Enjoy your turns!

Tuesday 12/19 Forecast

Santa delivered on his forecast this weekend with 4 inches of snow overnight and it’s still coming. Expect the snow surface to change from soft groomers this morning to packed powder as the snow continues to pile up throughout the day. I hope you’re all ready for a great day of storm skiing! 10:30 Update - I got the chance to follow Patrol into Tumwater 3 just as it opened. Let me just say, the skiing is even better than we expected.  Over 4 inches on the upper mountain overnight and it’s still snowing! Please continue to be cautious and respect all rope lines and closures. Hazards that were visible yesterday are only a few inches under the new snow. Patrol is in the process of assessing coverage and will open new terrain as conditions permit.  Keep your eyes and ears open and get in on the fun.

Monday 12/18 Forecast

10:20am Update - The winds have calmed down sufficiently that Chair 2 is now off hold. The new snow is making the Upper Mountain skiing a lot of fun. There is a clear transition in snow conditions just above Midway where the snow gave way to rain. Have fun out there! We got another trace of snow overnight on the Upper Mountain, the last trickle of precipitation from the warm front yesterday. Expect a short break in the snow and rain today while we wait for the cold front and snow to roll in this evening. There are high winds at the Summit this morning. We will be closely monitoring the winds as there's a chance that Chair 2 will start the day on wind hold. Thanks to the bit of fresh snow overnight, the groomed surface up top should make for some fun cruiser laps. Surface conditions around Midway and to the Base will vary depending on the trend in the temps this morning. If it cools off a bit, look for things to firm up significantly.

Sunday 12/17 Forecast

Thanks to all of you who participated in our Torchlight Parade last night. It was a great event and we’re looking forward to next year! Santa has been watching and left us the gift of a snowy forecast. Temperatures will be hovering right around freezing on the lower mountain, so there’s a chance of a rain/mix as well. I can’t wait to get some snow in my beard. Who’s with me? -Kai

Saturday 12/16 Forecast

Today we will be publicly thanking our local and regional Emergency Responders with a day dedicated to honoring their service. We are also celebrating Christmas on the Mountain with a lot of fun activities, concluding with the Torchlight Parade this evening. Fair weather skiers, today is your day, because more winter weather is just around the corner. The sun will be out and the inversion is gone, so expect it to be warm on the deck and brisk at the summit -- ideal conditions for a day on the hill. It was cold and clear overnight so the groomed surfaces should be in great shape and ready for another day of cruising.

Friday 12/15 Forecast

We’re excited to be back on the mountain and to be open 7 days a week through January 1st! The high pressure ridge and associated stable weather pattern is finally changing and today there’s even a small chance of *gasp* precipitation. Variable temperatures are forecast today, so if we get precipitation it could start out as mix of rain, sleet and snow changing to snow by mid-day. Variable weather is great news because it indicates a shift in the right direction that looks to bring full on winter back to the mountains in the days to come. Even with the warmer temps, the groomed surfaces are holding up really well and will make for some great easy cruiser laps, especially this morning. Let’s ride. -Kai

Thanks For A Great Weekend! Re-Opening Friday 12/15

It was a great weekend of fun in the sun! Warm temps across much of the mountain kept things comfy, but the snow stayed cool providing for nice groomed conditions early in the day. It looks like we might have a little shake up in the weather coming this week so get back to those snow dances and we look forward to seeing you back on the hill Friday 12/15 for seven day a week operations through January 1st. This week, starting Monday 12/11, we are excited to be hosting the Eigenvector Research FIS Open Series ski races. The races will run Monday through Thursday. This is a private race event and is open only to competitors and race staff. Snow Reporter Kai's Mid-Week Forecast:  High pressure is expected to persist through Thursday 12/14. Mostly clear with mild temperatures in the upper basin and cool temperatures at the base. Models are beginning to indicate that the high pressure ridge will begin to breakdown starting Thursday night, allowing a slight chance of precipitation. Due to the strong inversion, initial precipitation could fall as freezing rain, transitioning to snow showers as the inversion weakens Friday through Sunday.

Three skiers close on sunny groomed run

Sunday 12/10 Forecast

Today we are expecting it to be sunny and warm, perhaps extending slightly lower into the base area than yesterday. Clear skies last night brought chilly temperatures, so expect firm groomed conditions out there this morning to soften up a bit as the day goes on. Fingers crossed for a change in the weather pattern that has brought us these killer views in exchange for cold and snow. Have a great day! -Kai

Saturday 12/9 Forecast

Those of you who were here yesterday will agree with me that it was a beautiful day to be on the hill. Today we are expecting similar, sunny conditions with primetime views of the Cascades from the top of Chair 2. We are excited to announce that we will be opening the 100 Laps Terrain Park today with our Rope Ruckus event. Early morning we expect firm groomed conditions to soften over the course of the day as temperatures increase on the upper mountain. The clouds are clearing in the base area and the chairs are spinning, serving up fresh corduroy and blue skies! Despite the view from the chair, the coverage is very thin off of the open, groomed runs. Please observe and respect all posted closures and rope lines as many of these have changed since yesterday. We’re looking forward to seeing you all on the hill today for some more fun in the sun. -Kai
